Such a beautiful story. I wasn't sure about the storyline but decided to give it a chance based on reviews by others. Glad I did - it was such a sweet and meaningful story. The hero was almost too good to be true, while the heroine was human and relatable. For me, that balanced things out. It's not a book I would read over and over, but that's just a personal preference. I would definitely recommend this book if you're a fan of this genre.Tags : Always to Remember [Lorraine Heath] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. I choose to give 5 stars to this book because 8 stars wasn't an option.
If you like wounded heroes, this is the book for you! Every so often I am fortunate enough to read a book that is head and shoulders above the other books I have read. Best hero ever! Not to mention the twin boys, Josh and Joe
This is the 1st book I have read by Lorraine Heath, but my next purchase from for my will be another book of hers.
Lorraine Heath is always my favourite writer, and this book is one of the best.most stories used to portray the lead guy as cool and awesome, seldom quiet and strong. Clay Holland is a very deep and strong character. His silent way to show the world his believe is really amazing. This books shows that as long as we believe in what is the best, being the brave or being the coward does not matter. Its just being yourself. Thank you Lorraine Heath for another heart touching story.
What a beautifully touching, poignantly written story! It is both heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time. And, it accomplished this without huge theatrics. It is, instead a quiet, elegantly crafted book the deepens the emotion and tears at the heartstrings by showing honor amidst every day life and against the worst of prejudice and revenge.
This story doesn't sail along on rainbows and butterfly wings. Instead it takes you deep into the hearts of two imperfect people, who learn as much about each other in their failures as they do in their triumphs. I could hardly read the last chapters for the tears in my eyes, but they were good tears as I witnessed redemption and forgiveness executed by the talented author. Read it, you won't be sorry.
Loved this story. It's a page turner and a wonderful romance as well as a tale about family and forgiveness. This is a well-researched book you keep on your shelf and read again and yet the facts and history don't overhwhelm the story. The time period and characters are well drawn, the writing is great, the theme of stone sculpture woven into the story as not only a monument to fallen soldiers is created by an unexpected relationship is carved form the ashes of war and loss.
Lorraine Heath writes another brilliant novel with exceptional skill! This story was so heart-wrenching that I felt it deep in my soul. It was both painful and exhilarating to read. Nobody creates characters like Lorraine Heath....so incredibly complex that they just jump off the page and into your life. They are so finely crafted and you get to know them bit by bit, through details of the past and present until they feel like old friends. Clay was just the most honorable character I have ever come across and the torture he went through was beyond imaginable. His strength, determination and honor in the face of cruelty and prejudice was astounding. As hard as this book was to read at times, it was an exceptionally well written and riveting story.
Make sure you have a box of hankies when you read Lorraine Heath's novel Always to Remember. This book is emotional and it takes on themes rarely addressed in a romance novel.
Set in post war Texas, heroine Meg can barely tolerate just looking at Clayton Holland. Her contempt and hatred is palpable. Meg's young husband died during the Civil War along with three of her brothers and she irrationally despises Clay for living while her loved ones are buried far away. Clay was a conscientious objector during the War and imprisoned by the Confederacy for his beliefs.
Clay is a complex fellow, a sculptor who is kind, thoughtful and brave, even though the townsfolk have no idea of the anguish he has suffered. Clay returned home to his parent's farm after the war. His parents died while he was imprisoned and now he is the owner of the farm. He has a younger brother close to his age and a set of twin brothers about ten years old. Clay has no friends in town, they all consider him a coward and even his brother is ashamed of him.
Meg seeks a way to punish Clay and she comes up with the perfect solution. She will demand that he sculpt a statue honoring the dead soldiers from their small town. When she approaches Clay with the idea he agrees which throws Meg for a loop, she expects resistance. She is also insistent that she watch him sculpt every day so she can throw him contemptuous glances and basically remind him of his cowardice. Meg is such an angry person that it is easy not to like her. Her tone is dismissive with Clay and she is quick to tell him how much she truly despises him. The reader will wonder how this couple ever finds their way to tender feelings.
As the sculpture comes to life so do Meg and Clay's feelings. Meg learns so much from the taciturn Clay and even more she redefines valor. Her interactions with Clay and his twin brothers are nakedly honest, yet she still has her pride which in many ways is the biggest stumbling block to her relationship with Clay.
Clay is a divine character and even though he has suffered much there is an aura of goodness and even innocence about him. He is humble and this does not diminish his presence in the least. He epitomizes selflessness throughout this story.
Ultimately this tale is one of courage and loyalty. Both characters have these virtues and when they are together their passionate natures are seen in all of their actions. This is a five star read and one that has memorable characters and a heartfelt story.
