Sigh. I really wanted to like this story. Second chance, single mom, fighter... it marked several of my boxes. Unfortunately, this story is just too terribly SAD for me. I didn't enjoy it, as a whole. I skipped around a bit after the first third, because it was just so sad & I needed to find the hope. That wasn't really in the cards, but I continued to skim through, rather than just skipping to the last few chapters, which is what I normally do in these situations. The reason I sped-read rather than skipping to the end is because I DID fall in love with the characters, and the writing is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Julia & Crew (& Ever - Ever is adorable!), their struggle spoke to me. The sacrifices they're willing to make for each other and for Ever are well-crafted for the most part. It just would have been a more enjoyable story - for me - if they'd gotten to be HAPPY for more page time.
So, while this was not the book for me, I would recommend it if you like heart wrenching ugly cry books with a well-crafted (but sad) story. In that case, brew yourself a cuppa or pour the wine, grab the tissues & dig in, because this WILL be the story for you! : )

Sacrifice edition by Adriana Locke Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I absolutely love books by Adriana Locke and this is no exception! Let me start by saying, this is not a lighthearted love story. It is a love story but it’s one of tragedy, anger, fear, and the universe seemingly against the characters.
Julia Gentry and Crew Gentry have a very long and complicated history. When Julia’s world is turned upside down she blames her selfish brother-in-law and Crew agrees with her. Even though Julia despises Crew he keeps coming around to look after her and her daughter Everleigh.
When the universe throws Julia another blow Crew decides he will do whatever it takes to help Ever no matter what it costs him. Julia hates that she needs Crew but eventually she realizes he only wants to do right by her and her daughter. Soon they start to see each other in a different light and both start to want the same thing, each other.
Crew Gentry is man you can’t help but fall in love with. He’s fiercely protective of those close to him and will crush anyone that tries to hurt them. Julia has had a very tough life and it’s so unfair that one person has suffered like she has. Happiness just doesn’t seem to be in the cards for her.
I suggest having Kleenex near by because you WILL definitely ugly cry throughout this book! With that being said, it is wonderfully well written and one of the best love stories I’ve read.
Umm so ugh i just can't get over how emotional I was over this book. I cried so much that I had to stop reading so many times as the words were blurred by my tears and at the end when I was finished I sat down and had a good hard cry ... Right away I fell in love with Julia and her daughter Everleigh. Julia who was a strong mother that seemed to never stop fighting it did not matter what was thrown at her she fought and not just for herself but for everyone she loved.
Everleigh oh god sweet little Everleigh to read about her and going through the cancer and see her fight and fight ugh I think I'm going to start crying again just thinking about her...
Crew who has loved Julia for years from the first time he saw her way before his brother gage did but fate and karma had different plans for crew and Julia pick to see crew come back and fight for both his girls and never stop fighting even at the very end but you will see and understand when you read the book! To see every character in the story fight and sacrifice and keep on fighting this was such a well written emotional story I've read in a very long time.
I loved it, but there were parts that I didn’t like.
Positives first
(1) I love the emotions in the book hurt, bitterness, sadness, joy, love. It’s a very emotional book, and I love riding on an emotional rollercoaster when it comes to books.
(2) The redemption of Crew Gentry. Not gonna elaborate on that. Read the book if you want to know more.
(3) Side characters. This is only my second by Adriana Locke, the first being Written in the Scars (also an emotional book; 5 stars, by the way), but I can say that Adriana writes her side characters beautifully.
Now on to the things I didn’t like
(1) The relationship between the Gentry brothers and Julia. It didn’t sit well with me when I read the first part of the book.
(2) Crew is too much of a hothead for me. I cannot handle him at times. He infuriates me. Oh, the irony *eyeroll*
This book is about Julia, who loses her husband and is left to raise her daughter on her own. Her brother-in-law Crew does everything he can to help much to her dismay. But Crew can't deny that he still loves Julia and when she receives some devastating news, he's willing to make the ultimate sacrifice and do everything he can to get another chance.
I loved this book. It is quite an emotional roller coaster and I did not expect that because the description for this book is so vague. But I had the urge to cry multiple times. I loved the struggle of the MC Julia, she had to learn to live as a single parent and try to pay her bills, work multiple jobs, and still be a good mother. This makes her so easy to relate to. I loved Crew, he was a mean badass, but he loved so hard. He made the ultimate sacrifice for those he loved and didn't even bat an eyelash or complain one time. He put his life on the line. This may have been one of the most unique books I've read in a long time.
Gosh everything about this book was so beautiful, even cute little Ever. This book destroyed me. Adriana tortured me in the worse way possible, and I mean that in a good way. I ugly cried and rocked myself back and forth in hysterics. I have never been so afraid to turn the page of a book in my life. But this one scared the crap out of me. It shattered my heart into a million pieces and wove them back together again. I actually sighed at the end. I knew at that moment that I absolutely loved this book.
Sigh. I really wanted to like this story. Second chance, single mom, fighter... it marked several of my boxes. Unfortunately, this story is just too terribly SAD for me.
